Criminal Investigation and Prosecution Proceedings

A foreigner can report the crime committed against them to law enforcement or the Public Prosecutor’s Office, either directly or through their lawyer. If the crime is partially or entirely committed in Turkey, or if the outcome takes place in Turkey, an investigation is initiated by the Public Prosecutor’s Office ex officio or upon a complaint against the perpetrator. If there is sufficient evidence, the prosecutor prepares an indictment. Once the indictment is accepted, the prosecution stage begins and the Criminal Courts conduct a trial against the perpetrator.
